Lionel Messi has done more for the Spanish top flight than any other player in history, including former Real Madrid talisman Cristiano Ronaldo.

Spanish Laliga President, Javier Tebas believes FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has contributed more to the Spanish top flight than any other player in history of the league, including former Real Madrid talisman Cristiano Ronaldo.

LaLiga president Javier Tebas has once again stated that he would love to name an award after Messi one day, insisting that he is the most important player to have ever featured in the division.

"It would depend on Leo Messi, but I'd love to have a LaLiga award in his name," he said, according to Barca Blaugranes.

"If he finishes his career in Spain, or most of it, I don't believe anyone has contributed more to the competition."

Tebas, a known Los Blancos supporter, was then asked if he believes Messi has benefited LaLiga more than Ronaldo did.

"Yes, the fact Cristiano Ronaldo has gone to Serie A means he's (Messi is) even more important."

Messi has played 428 matches in LaLiga since making his debut in the competition, scoring 392 goals and assisting a further 154 strikes, and has won the league title nine times.
